Is There a Way to Cure Pimples?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 | by lose_spots |

There are lots of acne solutions and treatments available today, but is there actually an out-and-out cure for pimples? Is there actually a way to stop pimples once and for all? In fact there are a couple of ways to cure pimples over the long term. Let’s examine the alternatives.

First, let’s take a look at what is not a cure for pimples: topical treatments like benzoyl peroxide and antibiotic lotions.   The truth is that pimples are caused by a complex process involving androgen hormones. We can’t consider topical treatments to be a cure, because they don’t address the underlying hormonal issue. Are they a waste of time? Actually benzoyl peroxide is quite effective at helping to control cases of mild acne. Wipe your face with a salicylic acid pad before applying the benzoyl peroxide so that it penetrates further into your blocked pores. Your pimples will return if you stop this regimen. If you only have mild acne, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid might be all you need. Lucky you!

There are many good reasons why antibiotics have fallen out of favor in the treatment of acne. Problems are caused by killing off the good bacteria with the bad. This can lead to rashes, digestive issues and myriad other problems. The biggest problem is that using antibiotics creates antibiotic strains of bacteria. This is a huge problem for everyone as we have no way to effectively fight resistant bacteria. For this reason alone, antibiotics are prescribed less and less by doctors for common conditions including acne. There is an even more obvious reason to avoid antibiotics. Hormones cause acne! Antibiotics can’t prevent acne, they can only reduce the symptoms. They don’t even do that very well.  We have to look at hormones if we want a true cure for pimples.

What about Accutane? This is an effective weapon against pimples. Accutane has a role to play if you have severe acne. But Accutane has several drawbacks. Side effects are the biggest issue. Accutane was recently removed from the U.S. market because the serious side effects spawned so many lawsuits. Accutane is powerful medicine. It can harm your liver, so you must get regular blood tests and be monitored by your doctor. The threat of birth defects means that women must take the birth control pill if they are on it. It really is only a remedy to use when all else has failed. If you take it, your pimples will be worse for up to a year. Your skin will be sensitive and inflamed. You will feel like hibernating and not letting anyone see you. Your lips will peel and hurt. Accutane is an effective cure for pimples but it is a long term cure that you will suffer through in the shorter term (if you consider a year “short term!”)

The holistic methods are really the most effective cure for pimples. Changes to diet and lifestyle have been proven to have a profound influence on your hormones and holistic approaches to acne treatment have been achieving great results with no doctor or harsh drugs required. Take a look at the Acne No More ebook for example, and these acne reviews.  People experience improvements to their complexion in days and weeks and are sometimes free of acne altogether in only a few months. The smart thing to do before committing to a strong drug like Accutane is to give these natural treatments a try. Holistic treatments are proven, cost effective, and have a positive overall health benefit. The same cannot be said for Accutane.
