Developing an Acne Diet 101

Posted on July 28th, 2009 | by lose_spots |

Many people could benefit from an acne diet. After all, who has not heard the saying that chocolate gives you pimples? Just about everyone has. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.

Although creating a good acne diet can be very hard. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. Your advancement will mostly be by trial and error and not all by guidelines. Watch your skin carefully. Write down all changes. You could even take pictures a few times a week. So if and when your skin clears up, stay on the diet you were on at the time.

The following guidelines can help get you started on an acne diet:

1. Take in a lot more protein. Some dermatologists believe that protein is correlated with cleared skin. Oil production is limited from an enzyme located within protein. If you have oily skin, you know that it is very vulnerable to breakouts.

2. Don’t eat carbs. Don’t cut yourself off completely. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why common knowledge says that junk food leads to acne. Actually, though, junk food is just high in carbs.

3. Green tea is a must. If at all possible try to drink the real stuff. Brewing the green tea is the best way to drink it. You may not like the real stuff so the green tea drinks will work. Green tea will restrain the production of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that can cause breakouts.

4. You must restrict the amount of salt you take in. Iodine is almost always located within salt. This is why table salt is usually called “iodized salt.” Of course for some people with acne, iodine can cause big breakouts.

While watching what you eat, you should also be very careful with what you put on your face. You already know what is in your beauty products if you have acne. Natural and organic skin care lines are the best acne prone skin. These are least likely to cause a breakout. Consider switching over to mineral makeup. By using mineral makeup you may actually ease acne problems and increase the results of your acne diet.
