Avoiding Acne Scars

Many people wonder if there is anything they can do to prevent acne scars from happening. It can be extremely frustrating to see scars on your skin and getting rid of them is not always possible without professional assistance. Learning ways to prevent scarring can help you avoid all of the hassles of trying to get rid of them.

To better understand how to treat and prevent acne scars from occurring, it can be helpful to learn why they form in the first place. Generally, scars form when our skin tries to repair itself from an injury which has happened. When your skin becomes damaged, it reacts by making collagen to help restore the skin to it’s natural state. Scars are often a result of too much collagen being produced. Once you understand what causes them to form, you are then ready to learn about ways to prevent it from happening again as well as treatments for acne scars.

Getting rid of scars can sometimes be very difficult to do, especially if it is very deep. Even once it is removed there is no guarantee that it will not happen in the exact same spot again. It is recommended to consult with a dermatologist to assess which solutions will work the best for your individual circumstances. There are also many acne scar creams available as treatment, though they do not always give the results you may want. Learning how to prevent scarring from occurring can greatly help you avoid all of the hassles of trying to find an effective treatment.

Here are some things you can do to help avoid acne scars:

1. Wash Your Face: One of the best prevention methods is as simple as proper skin care. Using hot water will help you to open up your pores to prevent them from being clogged by dirt and dead skin cells. You should wash your face at least once a day before bed, though washing it in the morning usually is okay too. Keeping your pores clear of dirt and oil is essential, so be sure to choose soaps and moisturizers carefully.

2. Don’t Squeeze Pimples: It may be hard to resist the temptation to try and pop zits to make them go away, it can often cause them to get worse. Picking at your face will make it even more difficult for your body to heal itself, and increase the likelihood of scarring to occur. While it may be difficult to resist the temptation, it’s crucial that you do not!

3. Eat a Good Diet: A good diet is essential in ensuring your skin always looks its best. A healthy diet consists of leafy green vegetables, dairy products, lean proteins, and whole grains. Although many say that sugary and fatty foods do not lead to acne, the latest research has shown that there is some relation to your blood glucose levels and your likelihood to develop break outs.

4. Use a Safe Regimen: Because many products have chemicals and additives in them, they can sometimes actually make acne conditions worse! It’s important to make sure that the treatment you select to use is effective, otherwise it could mean wasted money and make problems worse. You can not always trust labels and packaging, so the more research you do the better your odds of finding something that actually works.

Acne scars do not cause any permanent damage to your body, although some may feel self conscious about their appearance from severe scarring. A dermatologist can discuss your medical history with you and help you make the decision as to which solution would work best for you.
