Are Expensive Face Cleansers Worth It?

It’s a common misconception that the best skin care for your face is shipped across the seas from Europe or Asia and comes with a 0 price tag. While you may be impressed by some of the supposedly all natural ingredients contained in many of these products, a closer inspection may reveal harsh chemicals that cause bigger problems for your skin. Why spend hundreds of dollars on various skin care products when you can get what you need to clean your face well for less than at most retail stores? Much of the expense can be prevented simply by learning the right way to clean your face.
The most important part about cleaning your face is first cleaning it with hot water; there’s no point in applying a face wash when dirt and oil is still built up in your pores. One of the best ways to prevent acne from happening is to make sure your pores are clean and do not allow for dirt to trap bacteria underneath which can cause infection and other skin problems. Only once you know how to properly wash your face with simple water first are you ready to try different cleansers.
Sometimes, simpler is better. A regular mild soap can often do more wonders than the expensive products when you remember to wash your face first with hot water. Some people find that home remedies for acne can be far more effective than the designer treatments available. As for commercial products available, you may want to consider products such as Cetaphil, which is one of the top cleansers recommended by skin care professionals.
Does this mean expensive skin care products are absolutely terrible? For some it can be, for others it may not be the best option. Some have found that when products which exfoliate are used it can help get rid of dead skin cells which can also sometimes be a culprit in causing acne problems. Unfortunately, these products aren’t always the best thing to use, since if they clean too well you may also lose the nutrients and oils that help prevent your skin from drying out. You can often find store brands which have the same ingredients as the more expensive name brand versions which can be equally as effective for a reduced cost. Another thing to consider is that while the products added to expensive skin care may be effective on animals, the human skin, especially on spots as tender as the face, are extremely sensitive, and these products may be detrimental to keeping your skin healthy and clear of acne. It for this reason that some people are skeptical of a lot of products and instead opt for treatments such as milk of magnesia for acne.
So remember, next time you’re looking at face care, don’t judge what your buying based on the general rule of thumb that more expensive is generally higher quality, because your skin is extremely sensitive. Learning to wash your face with hot water and making it a daily habit can often make a bigger difference than any expensive name brand product.
